What Does Confidence Look Like in Action?
Jan 15, 2025Do you ever have those moments where you forget who you are or how far you’ve come? You forget how much you’ve achieved and how much you’ve accomplished. And you convince yourself that you’ve lost your magic touch and it’s only a matter of time before you lose everything you’ve worked for. Eeek!
I have so been there...
You need someone to shake you out of your slump and remind you of the incredible potential within you - a potential you’ve proven time and again through the successes you’ve already manifested in your life.
We all go through this.
Slumps.
Ruts.
Set-backs.
They take their toll. They do damage.
But, let me remind you that the secret to bouncing back is CONFIDENCE.
Do you know what fuels confidence?
COURAGE.
And what ignites your courage? ACTION.
COURAGE + ACTION = CONFIDENCE
So, these 8 steps are my Confidence In Action plan for you:
1. Clear Decision-Making
Are you able to make clear and decisive decisions without ruminating or regretting your choice?
- Make choices aligned with your values and priorities, even when the outcomes are uncertain. Note: trusting your gut isn’t always the best option here.
- Say "no" to what doesn’t serve your goals or well-being without guilt. Honestly, if it’s not a ‘hell yes’ then it's a ‘hell no.’
2. Effective Communication
Do you mean to say certain things but the right words never actually come out of your mouth? Do you have ongoing conversations in your head that you don’t share with others? Or do you talk too much and people lose interest?
- Speak with clarity and conviction, whether sharing an idea, giving feedback, or presenting a vision. This will change everything for you at work, and home!
- Listen actively and engage in conversations without the need to prove yourself or make it all about you!
3. Proactive Risk-Taking
What is your risk tolerance? Does it match the culture of your organization?
- Step outside your comfort zone to seize opportunities for growth.
- Acknowledge that you might fail, but move forward with preparation and adaptability.
4. Empowering Others
Do you feel like if you don’t do it, nobody will? That thinking will cripple your career.
- Delegate tasks and trust your team to succeed without micromanaging.
- Celebrate others’ successes without feeling diminished.
5. Resilience in Setbacks
Are you resilient or do you wallow in despair and self-reproach?
- View challenges as opportunities to learn rather than personal failures.
- Bounce back from criticism or mistakes with grace and plans for improvement.
6. Authenticity
Do you show up as the truest version of you possible, with your own thoughts, ideas, and vision? Do you leave an impression everywhere you go? Are you being true to yourself, sharing your opinions, and showing vulnerability when appropriate?
- This is your chance to be YOU. Besides, everyone else is already taken!
- Own your story, including your imperfections, without fear of judgment.
7. Consistent Self-Care
What does self-care mean to you? Do you ever make time for just yourself?
- Prioritize rest, health, and personal joy, understanding that you perform best when you’re at your best.
- Set boundaries that protect your time, energy, and mental space.
8. Action Despite Fear
Can you be afraid and still keep moving toward the goal? If your goals don’t scare you, they’re likely too small.
- Acknowledge fears or self-doubt but take intentional steps forward anyway.
- Embrace uncertainty with the belief that you can handle what comes your way.
I hope these steps help you find the courage to take the courage that leads you to your most confident self.
