Hey, Summer…I really loved you!

I admit, I love summer.  Among all the seasons, it claims the crown with its elongated days, warm temps, unbridled laughter of carefree children, and the luxury of unhurried schedules.  There’s just a certain tranquility in the air during summer, a feeling that time is best spent with those we cherish.  This year, however, that sentiment felt even more profound.

This summer held a significance like no other. 

My oldest son stands at the threshold of his senior year in college.  In just one more year, he’ll emerge as a college graduate, a bonafide engineer, with multiple job offers and opportunities for globe-trotting adventures.  Witnessing his dreams come to fruition has been an unparalleled joy.

But, this summer…

He remained a college student – spirited, exuberant, and unburdened.  His presence at home was palpable, a source of love and laughter.  And miraculously, he’s still mine.  

We traveled and we celebrated, we hosted family at our lake house in Maine.  We devoured lobster, sweet corn, and juicy watermelon.  We fished, boated, and soaked in every sunset.

We went to weddings, championing love, well-being, and unity.   

But, every season ends, and changes and transforms into something new….

Our lives are really an intricate tapestry of seasons – those determined by the weather and those woven by life itself. The season when our babies are young and we navigate our careers.  Then, as if by design, that season evolves. Our babies grow, we evolve, and our careers intersect with fresh decisions and new opportunities.  The journey isn’t linear; your bestie’s choices might not necessarily align with your own. 

This is why the old adage is so true – Know thyself.

Do you know yourself?  Maybe it’s time to have a refresher? Perhaps this juncture could be an ideal time for a self-assessment – and a chance to embrace the transitions right in front of you.
